Texting must work different in the States (unless i'm reading this wrong).
So people who text who are basically working on behalf of the cell carriers to extort money from you. Texting normally has a per text price and cannot be shut off. It's not really okay to text anyone unless they've said it is okay. No it's not ok to text in sick, unless you manager has said it is. i still think phoning is better ether by the person sick or by a relative/family/partner.
Ringing will still put you in the good books with management and HR while texting wont and could be turned against you. I find texting in is a little degrading for management, like saying can't be assed to ring you so i'll send you a 4 word text. With that in mind why would a text be an issue? If someone calls in sick you have to take their word for it unless you can prove otherwise.
You might think they sound fine but there is no way to know one way or another. Sorry, but there is absolutely no way to tell if someone is sick or not via a phone call. I'd say Always call in, txting in is a lazy way and can cover up a lot of fake sickness.Ī Phone call you can generally hear them sick, if someone text me saying there sick and not coming in I'd be quite insulted, as they could have sent that text while sitting out side in the sun with a cocktail in there hand.
